Historically both men and women have worn pierced earrings.

The popularity for men wearing earrings started with the hippie era in recent time. Many male musicians started wearing earrings and increased the popularity even more.

For a time during the eighties the gay community used them to signal their availabilty.

When big burly men bikers started wearing earrings as a fashion statement, other men decided that their love of jewelry and decorating their person was okay.

Men have worn not just jewelry but earrings for centuries. Earrings for men simply go in and out of fashion as the customs of the day dictate.

Stud earrings for men seem to be the most popular form worn today. I have in recent years seen many types of earrings and ear piercings depending on preference and the tribes individual people select to affilate or associate with.

Now available to men are fun to wear sports earrings.  You can pick your favorite college or professional baseball or football team accessories to add to your jewelry wardrobe.

Great colors are available in some of the earrings.  You could definitely stand out in the crowd wearing your teams emblem.

 The big question when buying stud earrings is what size should you get? 

Many factors come into play when selecting the right earrings. 

What size is your ear lobe?

This is probably the biggest factor in selecting the right stud for your ears.  If you have a small lobe you will probably opt for a smaller size earring to flatter you.  Larger ear lobes would look better with a larger stud, this will not call attention to it's size.

You can buy studs in gold, silver, platinum, and other metals with surgical steel posts or with precious metal posts. 

The main thing in buying a stud earring is to make sure you have a good backing to lock it on your ear.  If the earring is just what you want and it's backing is loose you could lose your stud.

This has happened to me.  Lucky me, I've only lost two earrings.  I now go to the craft store and buy a package of earring backs to use instead of the ones that come with the earrings if they are loose.  You can get them in a silver or gold tone, I bought a package of each.  They have a plastic round which gives padding to the back of your ear and enables you to push the back firmly against your ear.

Hope this tip will save you from losing a favorite earring and will also give you some relief from having to lock the back so hard against your ear.
